Coming to WDW in December. I wanted to get my wife something special as a gift. I heard there was a kiosk in Epcot where they make bracelets and necklaces out of park guides. Is it still there and can I still get the items as a special Christmas gift.

    Hi Toni!

Thanks for writing in with your great question.
I LOVE the unique jewelry made from old Disney Park Guides. I own a bracelet which was purchased for me by another Moms Panelist. The kiosk is indeed still currently at Epcot Park and has been there during every visit I've made in the past eighteen months. I haven't heard of any plans for it to leave, so I would like to expect that it should still be there by the time you visit in December!

'The Bead Outpost' is located in World Showcase in between China and Germany as you pass through the area called The Outpost. If heading around World Showcase counter-clockwise, you'll see it on the left hand side of the pathway after you've crossed the bridge exiting China. There's a large assortment of earrings, bracelets and necklaces of varying lengths. Colour schemes vary based on the type of maps used. If you look really closely, you can make out which maps were used based on colour scheme alone!

Not only do these unique items make a fabulous souvenir and memento of your vacation - but you are actually helping an amazing cause. The jewelry is made in Uganda through a non-profit organization called Bead For Life. Outdated Disney Park maps and brochures are shredded into thin strips and sent to Uganda where women wrap them into 'beads' and make the jewelry as a means of lifting their own families from poverty. The stories are really quite amazing and can be found online via the Beadforlife.org website.

I hope this information has been helpful to you Toni. If you have additional questions about your December visit, please don't hesitate to write me back. I'd love to hear from you again!

Wishing you a simply Magical time at Walt Disney World!
