i am coming on a trip early 2011 still contemplating the ddp,we are gonna be a party of 8,two adults,my question is do we have to pay the 18 percent tip or can we pay what we can afford,im thinking we will spend several hundred dollars in 7 days on tips

    Hey Sherry!

For parties of 6 or more an 18% gratuity is automatically added to your bill at the table service restaurants.  You can see information stating this policy included on Disney's Dining Plan information page.

I've never actually heard of anyone asking for the bill to be changed in regards to the gratuity, but I would suggest asking your Cast Member server in the restaurant about it. I've always received the best service from Cast Members in Disney restaurants...they are very eager to help.  My husband and I own a restaurant and we often use stories of our great dining experiences in Disney World when training our own wait staff!

In the States it is common to tip the wait staff between 15% and 20% of your total bill before taxes. It is very common for a restaurant to add an automatic gratuity for large parties.

I hope that you have a nice trip in 2011.
