On your mark! Get set! Maria, are you ready to
Go! Go! Go!On the heels of a planned 9-hour travel day to get to Canada that turned into closer to 14 hours, I completely understand your question.
I trained and trained for my first half marathon,
runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, a few years ago. After everything it takes to get there, you certainly do not want to miss out on that Starting Line. Where else are you greeted with fireworks to announce your start to the race? Pure magic!
Typically speaking, the
race guidelines require athletes to go to the
runDisney expo the day before their race to pick up their bib, t-shirt and pre-ordered merchandise. In previous races, there has been emergency bib pick-up on the morning of the event to help athletes with significant travel delays or other emergencies. If you need this, I recommend heading to the runner's area the morning of the race and looking for the "Runner Information" tent. I heard on weekends like the
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, when many runners' travel plans were affected by severe winter storms, the line can get long, so arrive early. And since this is an exception to the race policies, there is no guarantee it will be available. They are also only likely to have your bib, not your race shirt.
I know getting there safely and running the race is the most important thing. I hope it works out that your flight is practically perfect in every way, and you can rest easy, knowing the only racing you will be doing is on the course. I also hope you have the most magical time running this weekend. My runDisney motto is: If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right! The music, the characters, the fellow athletes... there is so much joy in people achieving their best, all while smiling! Truly,
Walt Disney World is the most magical place to race!
