We are coming in the middle of October. My husband is totally blind. Do we have to check in at each park each day to get a Descriptive device (DVS)? Can we check in just once and keep the device for the full 6 days (and all 4 parks)?

It’s always a delight to see you at planDisney, Chelsea!

Thank you for stopping by with your question for us.

I can’t wait for you and your husband to visit Walt Disney World Resort! There’s nothing quite like experiencing Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom Park as you smell the sweet scents of the Main Street Confectionery and stop in for freshly brewed magic in a cup at Main Street Bakery! One of my favorite things to do while I'm at the parks is relax and listen to the jovial music playing in the background. I’m listening to the playlist right now as we discuss your enchanting vacation because it takes me right back to the magic!

Chelsea, I'm so grateful for the Services for Guests with Disabilities offered at Walt Disney World Resort because my own family has benefited from them. I called and spoke to a friendly Cast Member at Disability Services for you and was informed that the Disney handheld devices available from Guest Relations at all four theme parks are rented out daily because each device is programmed differently for each theme park.
Your husband may also find Braille Guidebooks helpful. These are available upon request by calling (407) 828-5005 or emailing In addition, select table-service restaurants offer menus in Braille; please don’t hesitate to ask a Cast Member about availability. For more information, please check out the Services for Guests with Visual Disabilities page.

I would also recommend you visit Guest Relations to set up the Disability Access Service program (DAS). This program is for Guests who cannot wait in a traditional queue environment, and instead, would receive a return time for the attraction. This service would be set up for the whole family, so your husband would not have to ride separately from the party. My own family uses this service, and it has been a fantastic way to help my little guy feel at ease at the theme parks. You would only need to register for the DAS during the first day of your trip, and it will be valid for up to 60 days.

We can’t wait to welcome you and your bibbidi bobbidi boo to the magic, Chelsea! I hope you have an enchanting time together!
