Coming in March and have our hearts set on the Tangled lantern photos and the Magic Kingdom fireworks, but I've heard that it can be tricky to do both on the same day. Is this true? Any strategies (dessert parties, park hopping from Animal Kingdom)?

    Hi Amber,

It’s good to see you here at planDisney again! I know you’re excited about your upcoming visit, and like Rapunzel, you’ve got a dream, you just wanna see the floating lanterns gleam!

The Disney PhotoPass Tangled lantern photo opportunity is available in Fantasyland every day after dark, weather permitting. You’re visiting in March 2024, so the schedule for Happily Ever After has not been announced yet, but I believe we can also assume it will be after sundown.

You mentioned park-hopping from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. If you are planning to visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom first, you can currently park-hop after 2:00 PM ET if your ticket has the Park Hopper option. In my opinion, you’ll want to Park Hop right around 2:00 PM so you can spend time in Magic Kingdom Park and ride a few attractions.

When it comes to a Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party, there are several options to choose from. The Pre-Party, which includes a selection of desserts and beverages followed by access to a private viewing area for Happily Ever After. Another choice is Seats & Sweets, during which you would enjoy specialty treats and beverages from your seat at Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant. Or the Post- Party, which begins with the viewing of Happily Ever After and is followed by the dessert party. Since we do not know the official schedule for theme park hours and Happily Ever After Fireworks for March yet, I recommend you keep an eye on the Hours & Events Calendar to determine which dessert party to choose. If there is an hour or two between when fireworks occur and the theme park closes, I would choose the Pre-Party, then make your way to Fantasyland to get your photo opportunity. If Magic Kingdom Park closes shortly after Happily Ever After ends, I recommend choosing the Post-Party and getting your Tangled lantern photo before the fireworks.

One option you may not have considered is to go to Fantasyland for your Tangled lantern photo, and if you don’t have time to make it to Main Street, U.S.A. to view the fireworks, you can watch them from behind the castle. This viewing location will limit the projections you can see, but I have watched Happily Ever After from this area before, and let me tell you, it is a 360-degree view of fireworks and still an incredible show!

One more tip before I send you running and racing towards your Magic Kingdom goals, Amber. There are several picnic tables in the area where the Tangled lantern photo opportunity is offered. I suggest grabbing a bite to eat at Columbia Harbour House right around the corner and enjoying your meal at one of those tables. That way, when it’s time to prepare for the photo opportunity you will be nearby, hopefully reducing any wait time you will have!

Good luck, Amber. If you have any future questions, please come back and see us at planDisney!

Wishing you the BEST DAY EVER!
