We are coming to Florida in Jan 2013 and will be visiting Disney. We have not been before and are a little daunted by all that is on offer. We are a family of five: mum and dad, son 13, daughter 11 and daughter who will be 7. What do you suggest! Help!!

    Hi  Deborah!

Thank you for sending in your question to the Walt Disney World Moms Panel.

The most important steps are figuring out when you want to go, where you want to stay, and making some Advance Dining Reservations (ADRs).

January is a relatively quiet time at Walt Disney World except for the Martin Luther King Junior Holiday Weekend, but even that is manageable compared to other holiday periods throughout the year.  I think you picked a great time to go, especially if you don't like the hot and humid weather Florida has to offer in the summer time.  In fact, the weather can be very cold in January; you will definitely want to pack some jackets, sweaters, or sweatshirts and maybe even some gloves and hats.  You will definitely want to check on the weather forecast a few days before your trip!

ADRs can be made online or by calling (407) WDW-DINE.  They are really important to have if you want to visit some of the fabulous Table Service restaurants at Walt Disney World.  To help you make them, you need to have some idea of where you will be on any given day.  If you need help, just write back.

By the way, since it is your first time visiting, I highly recommend picking up the book "The Complete Walt Disney World" by Julie and Mike Neal.  It is a great book for first time visitors as it is full of information but it is not overwhelming.  It is also a beautiful book full of color photographs.  Another great book is "PassPorter's Walt Disney World" by Jennifer and Dave Marx; it is also perfect for first time visitors though it doesn't have as many photos as my previous recommendation.

I hope this helps!  Our responses are limited in length.  I would be happy to help you plan.  Please write back with more questions!  You can send them directly to me or any other panelist!
