We are coming in February 2022, will there still be free transportation from the airport to our hotel?

Hello and welcome to planDisney, Michele. I see that you have a trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth planned in January. There is no better way to kick off a new year than a trip to Walt Disney World, it's going to be so much fun!

Michele, Disney's Magical Express Service (which was the complimentary shuttle to and from the airport) will be discontinuing its service starting January 1, 2022. As of now, there are no plans for Walt Disney World to be offering something in place of this service. You will need to secure your own transportation from the airport to Walt Disney World and back again for your trip.

Luckily, there are several ways to get back and forth - they just take a little bit of preplanning but that's what you are here for! My favorite way to get to and from the airport, even now with Disney's Magical Express Service still running, is to use a ride-share service. I'm telling you there is not a more convenient way to get around. Once you've gotten your luggage you can call a car and head to the ride-share service pick-up area. There are always so many around the airport that I've never really had that much of a wait. I find that the additional cost of a ride-share car to get to Walt Disney World isn't all that exuberant of a cost either. I've paid anywhere from about $35.00 - $50.00 one way. If you have multiple people in your party that can chip in, it makes it even less expensive. Another option would be to use a traditional taxi. Taxis are always waiting right outside of the airport doors. I find they are slightly more than a ride-share service so I typically don't use them anymore but they are a great option for people who aren't as comfortable using ride-share apps. Another way to get from the airport and back again would be to hire a car service to pick you up. A quick internet search will turn up several companies in the area that do this. Car styles that can pick you up include a Town car, SUV, passenger van and if you are really fancy - even a limousine. The last option I'll suggest to you is a new service that Mears is going to be providing called, Mears Connect. Mears is the company that Disney's Magical Express used to contract out to. Since they no longer have a contract Mears has decided to start their own shuttle service. It has not launched yet so I don't have any experience with it but you can head over to their website for all the details.

I hope this helps give you some ideas for transportation on your next trip. If you have any other questions, please feel free to stop back by and ask me. I'm here to help. Have fun and enjoy!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
