We are coming to DW mid-May 2011 for the first time. I just want a basic hotel that will accommodate my family of 5 (3kids). They are happy to share a bed. Feeling quite overwhelmed! Please help! Thank you!

    Hi Jodi,
Let me assure you...there is no need to feel overwhelmed!  You are planning your first magical trip in good time!

Disney has three levels of hotels:  value, moderate and deluxe.  Since you mention you would like a 'basic' hotel I will tell you about Disney's All-Star Music Resort (which is a value resort).  The All-Star Music resort has a limited number of 'family suites', which sleep up to 6 Guests.  They have a separate bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a pull-out sofa and 2 single sleepers in the living room, 2 bathrooms and a kitchenette.  Our family loves the All-Star Music resort.  It has fun pools and a wonderful atmosphere.

To take a little more stress off of you, let me recommend that you take some time to loosely plan your trip.  It will build excitement with your family and take the pressure off of you!  First, decide on all the 'must-see' things that are on your family's list.  Libraries have many planning books, and you can also find all the information you will need at www.disneyworld.com.  Under the 'Parks' tab of this site, you can chose the theme park you want to visit, and then on the left side of the page you will see the 'calendar' option.  Click that to find out what is happening each day of your trip.  It's a great way to decide what days you will spend in each park.  Don't forget to have some fun time around your resort;  there will be lots to do there too.

If you are planning any sit-down dining or character experiences, you should book those as soon as possible by calling (407) WDW-DINE as many places sell out early.

Jodi, write me back if I can answer any more questions as you plan your vacation.  You are going to have an amazing family time together!

Walt Disney World stole my heart when my parents introduced me to the magic the year it opened. I fondly remember my first 'Mickey Mouse in a Glass House' balloon! I still visit with my parents-and now with my husband and our two teens. Learn More About Lynn
