Hi! We are coming to Disney World in Jan 2019 with a 4 year old. What should I absolutely not take him on? This is our first O/S trip and I am both excited and scared.

    Hi Fauve,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us a question! First things first, while I can totally understand your nerves, please don’t worry about travelling with your little guy because you’ve picked the perfect destination. Walt Disney World Resort was designed with families in mind, which should help give you peace of mind once you arrive!

As for which attractions to experience with him, your choice will depend on two things: his height and how much of a thrill seeker he is. My son has always been tall for his age, which means that he’s been able to ride some more thrilling attractions such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park since he was barely 2 years old… but that doesn’t mean he wanted to! Conversely, my friend’s daughter is a total daredevil and would ride every roller coaster in the Theme Parks, but she’s not tall enough to be able to do so.

My advice would be to let your son tell you what he likes and doesn’t like. Start with a roller coaster that is relatively tame and that he can see from start to finish, like The Barnstormer. If he likes that, then you can try other attractions such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. If he doesn’t like The Barnstormer, then I'd recommend sticking to attractions like the Tomorrowland Speedway (it was my son’s favourite ride when he was 4).

    Have a Magical Day,
    Lynne
