We are coming to disney world at the end of jan with our 2 girls(1 and 3), we are staying at disneys animal kingdom lodge savanah view room. What are the rooms like and what animals can you see from your balcony? are the resteraunts good and kid friendly?

    Hi Christine!

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my favorite deluxe resorts.  The lobby is magnificent, with a huge picture window from which you can see roaming animals as soon as you arrive!   The animals you will be able to see from your savanna view room depend upon where in the resort you are located.  Jambo House actually overlooks several savannas (Uzima, Arusha and Sunset) and each has some unique animals.  For example, ostriches are only located on Arusha and zebras on Sunset savannah.  There are giraffes located on all three savannas.  Each room has a "viewing guide" that will help you identify the animals that can be seen from your balcony.  The savannas are lit at night by an artificial moonlight, which should enable you to see some wildlife no matter what time you look out.  In addition to your balcony, there are several locations throughout the resort from which you will be able to see wildlife, including the lobby, resort hallways and even from Sanaa, a fabulous new restaurant located next door to Jambo House at Kidani Village.

Speaking of dining, the restaurants located at Jambo House and Kidani Village are among Disney's finest.  Boma is a fantastic, family-friendly buffet that has a huge assortment of options ranging from African inspired salads and meats, to a child-friendly buffet that includes many "kid standards."  Jiko is an incredible signature dining establishment with amazing entrees and an impressive South African wine list.  My children profess that Jiko has the best macaroni and cheese in the world!  Sanaa, located at Kidani Village is a new table service restaurant that overlooks a savanna and features Indian and African inspired cuisine.  The Mara is a great, quick service eatery.

I hope you have a fantastic trip!
