Coming to Disney in July for a conf offsite & want to add 2 days at a park-MK and AK (or HS). Haven't been to Disney since 2018. A lot has changed. How do I get started & what do I need to do? Please help! Thanks!

Hey there, Judy, and welcome to planDisney! It’s always a great time for a visit to Walt Disney World Resort and already being in Central Florida for work sounds like the perfect reason to sneak away to the “bubble”. Things have changed a little since 2018, but many of the things you already know and love remain the same! I’m happy to say that you are starting in the perfect place, right here with planDisney!

The first step in planning a Disney Vacation is to secure your spot by purchasing Theme Park Tickets and making Theme Park Reservations. Theme Park Reservations are new since your 2018 visit but are pretty straightforward. After you complete your Theme Park Ticket purchase, head over to the Disney Park Pass Reservation System and make reservations for the exact parks and days you want to visit. You currently need valid Theme Park Tickets and a Theme Park Reservation to enter any of the 4 Theme Parks.

One of the most noticeable changes since 2018 is likely the replacement of the FastPass system with the paid Disney’s Genie+ Service. Genie+ is an add-on service where you can reserve an attraction return window. Upon return, you will access the ride through the Lightning Lane queue, which typically equates to shorter wait times. If you are big into experiencing the hottest attractions, I recommend that you add Genie+ to your Theme Park Tickets. You can read this answer here for more information on the ins and outs of the new Genie+ service.

And if you will need to add lodging as part of your visit, I recommend considering a Disney Resorts Collection hotel. Your hotel stay can be booked with your Theme Park Tickets to create a Vacation Package. And when you book a Disney Vacation Package, you pay a $200 deposit to secure your dates and have until 30 days before your arrival date to pay off your balance!

Judy, these steps will get you started as you begin planning your summer trip to the Walt Disney World Resort. If you have any more questions, please stop back by and ask. After all, you’ve got a friend in me!

    Until Next Time,
