We are coming to Disney in January and will be going to the droid depot for our 2 sons. We have heard the back packs are the best way to carry the droids but have also heard they tend to sell out and are not available. Any truth to this ?

Bright suns, Barbara!  Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel on your way to the planet Batuu!

Droid Depot at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has the droids you are looking for.  Your young padawans are going to love constructing their own BB-series or R-series droids.  They will be able to choose parts for their droids from a conveyor belt, assemble them, and bring them to life in an activation station.  Once activated, their droids can interact with other astromech droids and various Bluetooth-enabled elements and devices as they carry them throughout the land.  Personality chips are available to purchase at an additional charge to further customize their droids' interactive responses.  Never underestimate a droid!

In addition to the droids themselves, Droid Depot sells a wide variety of droid-related merchandise, including backpacks that provide travelers with the perfect means for carrying their droids throughout Black Spire Outpost.  Although all merchandise is subject to availability, I have visited Droid Depot on several occasions and have always seen the backpacks in stock.  While it is certainly possible for merchandise in Black Spire Outpost to sell out from time to time, Ohnaka Transport Solutions can smuggle, I mean legitimately ship, more items to Batuu to restock the shops in less than 12 parsecs.  If by chance, the backpacks are not in stock at Droid Depot during your visit, your droids do come with their own boxes.  These boxes have convenient handles that make it easy to carry your droids.

Your sons' droids will make the perfect traveling companions as your family explores Black Spire Outpost!  For even more opportunities to interact with the land, be sure to download Star Wars: Datapad on the Play Disney Parks mobile app.
