Coming to Disney on 27th Feb from Canada. Was familiar with old bookings on days in park but really do not want to have to wake up at 7:00 a.m. to do so. What is your suggestion please.

    Ann,

Thanks for asking your question to planDisney!

My family and I just returned from a Thanksgiving trip to Walt Disney World, and I am one of those guests who usually will get up at 6:58 am every morning to make the first attraction selection of the day. Guilty as charged!

But this was supposed to be a more relaxing trip for my family, so we tried a different strategy. Speaking as NOT a morning person, I understand your concern about how attraction selection affects your day, but perhaps some of what we did this time might help.

While there is no alternative way to select a Genie+, Virtual Queue, or Individual Lightning Lane attraction time other than to get up and make a choice via your My Disney Experience App in the morning, there can be other approaches. In late February, you are going to find that crowd levels are comparatively low. So for each of these three options, here are my recommendations.

Genie+: I only picked a Genie+ ride at 7 am once, or maybe twice that early in the morning on our trip. Why? Well, if we had a time that was right at the park opening, we would have missed it anyway. My daughters slept in, so by the time we got there, the selection may have expired anyway. So you should just make that first selection when you wake up naturally. That way you should get a time for most attractions that are out far enough in the morning for you to get there in time.

Individual Lighting Lane: This is a tricky one. If you wait until you wake up, there is a chance that all times will have been reserved. For my family, I decided what attractions we really had to see. They had never been on Guardians of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, so that morning I got up, picked a time, and then went back to sleep. But I only did that once out of 5 park days.

Virtual Queue: This was an easy one. Since a guest who secured a Virtual Queue slot at the 7 am time is no longer allowed to select one again, you will have better luck than you might imagine at the 1 pm opportunity. I would just wait until then for this one. In our case, waiting for the Virtual solved many of our times we wanted an Individual Lightning Lane selection but did not want to wake up to select one.

These are not perfect solutions. But for my family, at a very busy time in the parks, we got to ride everything we wanted and did not miss anything notable in our plans. The Virtual Queue system helped us get into a few key attractions, and my getting up 1 or 2 mornings to make important Individual Lightning Lane selections made for a successful and relaxed trip.

Please feel free to write me back directly if you have any follow-up questions.
