We are coming to Disney at the end of January for a week with our 2 1/2 and 8 year old daughters. Weatherwise, what are we looking at? When we went in 2008 the weather was the coldest January on record, so I want to be prepared but not overly.

    Hi Jennifer,

Average temperatures at Walt Disney World in January generally include lows in the high 40s or low 50s, and highs in the low 70s.  As you know from your previous trip, however, these are averages, so consulting a 10-day forecast before you head out is a great idea.  When we visit the parks in the January, we tend to dress in layers that include a short-sleeved shirt, sweatshirt/sweater and light jacket.  The jacket, and very often the sweatshirt/sweater are "stashed" by the early afternoon, when the sun is high.  You may also want to bring along a pair of lightweight gloves (I've seen these at the dollar store) and a hat or sweatshirt with a hood, because the mornings and evenings can be quite chilly.

If you pack and dress in layers, I think you should be fine.  This approach has worked better for my family than bringing one heavy jacket that ends up being too warm for afternoons.

    Have a wonderful trip!
