Hi there, Rachael! Welcome to planDisney!
I consider myself a bit of a weather enthusiast, so I’m happy to answer your question. I’m also happy to report that a Walt Disney World vacation is a magical experience any time of year, rain or shine.
Weather, and especially Florida weather, can be unpredictable, making it difficult to estimate how often the Walt Disney World water parks close due to inclement weather. I can tell you that the end of August and the beginning of September are still considered hurricane season in this region of the Atlantic Ocean, and it’s not uncommon for the Orlando area to experience brief rainstorms in the afternoon hours. Looking at the meteorological data, it appears that the average daily chance of precipitation in Orlando is 59% and drops to 41% by the end of the month, and that the average monthly rainfall for September is between 4.2 and 5.6 inches.
You can still swim at the water parks or pools at Walt Disney World Resort hotels if it is raining, but pools, slides, and other outdoor attractions will be temporarily closed if there is thunder and lightning nearby. Once the inclement weather passes, the water parks and attractions will open back up to guests.
If you do decide to include Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon in your holiday plans, then I recommend checking out the following attractions.
-
Typhoon Lagoon: Miss Adventure Falls, Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool
-
Blizzard Beach: Cross Country Creek, Toboggan Racers
I hope this info helps with your vacation planning, Rachael. Don’t hesitate to come back to planDisney if you have any other questions. We’re always happy to help!
Magical travels!
Matt
