Hi Teresa,
There is so much to do at Walt Disney World outside of the theme parks. I am happy to share with you some of my family's favorite non-park day activities!
Spend some time at
Disney Springs. This is Walt Disney's World's shopping, entertainment, and dining district. You can do some shopping and enjoy some of the many wonderful restaurants. Chef Art Smith's Homecomin' is my current favorite, with down-home, Florida-inspired comfort food. Disney Springs was recently re-imagined and is buzzing with new life and vibrancy.
Another fun activity on a non-park day is miniature golf. There are two locations for miniature golf at Walt Disney World - Fantasia Gardens & Fairways and Winter Summerland. My family has golfed at both, and find miniature golf to be a fun way to spend a couple of hours!
One of my family's favorite ways to spend a non-theme park day is at our resort hotel. Almost as soon as we arrive at Walt Disney World, my daughter will ask, "When is resort day?" There is so much to do at all of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels. We enjoy an afternoon relaxing by the pool. When you check-in, you will receive a guide to recreation activities at your resort hotel. Take a glance at that - the activities are fun and occur often!
A final thought for you, especially considering that you are going in December, is to go and see the other resort hotels. They will be decorated for the winter holidays at this time, and are beautiful! Two of my favorite places to do this are on the resorts around the monorail loop (you can start at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to see their amazing holiday gingerbread house), or head to
Disney's BoardWalk, from which you can stroll around Crescent Lake and see many resort hotels.
Let us know if you have any further questions, Teresa!
