Coming at Christmas 2023! Can’t pay for Park Hopper for 8 days so would like to split just 1 day. How can we do .5 day at AK and 1.5 days at HS?

Hi there Molly and welcome to planDisney!

If there's one thing that I think is key to every successful Disney vacation, it's having a good strategy when planning out how to make the most of your time at the Walt Disney World Theme Parks - especially when you're planning to come during the holidays, which is notoriously one of the absolute busiest times of the year to visit.

    • The first thing to keep in mind is that you should definitely prepare everyone for crowds and longer waits the closer you are to Christmas and New Year's Eve, so be ready to take on each of your Theme Park days with a solid game plan.
    • When choosing to take advantage of Park Hopping, it's very important to be aware that at the busiest times of the year, there's a chance of popular Theme Parks like Disney's Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom Park to hit capacity. (When that happens, guests might not be permitted to enter until a certain number have left and transportation may temporarily pause to alleviate crowding at the entrances.) By comparison, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park rarely experiences this and could be considered a safer option to Hop over to.
    • Make sure that you have valid admission with the Park Hopper Option (you may be able to upgrade and pay for the difference directly with a Guest Relations Cast Member or at a Ticketing window). I recommend starting your day early and arrive at Disney's Hollywood Studios and be ready to "Rope Drop" ahead of opening time, prioritizing the main attractions that you want to experience that are more likely to have the heaviest waits during your stay like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash
    • During the holiday season, the crowds tend to swell around noon so this would be a good time to have Mobile Food Orders pre-scheduled for snacks that you can enjoy as you head out and prepare to take a bus over to Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park; these currently tend to begin running at 1:30 p.m. EST.
    • A great way to spend the rest of the day would be to prioritize any animal-related attractions that tend to close earlier like Kilimanjaro Safaris or the shows like Festival of the Lion King. With fewer rides and no nighttime spectacular at this time, the crowds tend to thin out as it gets later and make queues slightly shorter in my experience! I would also save any attraction with a typically long wait time like Avatar Flight of Passage until right before closing time.
    • The next day, you can head back to Disney's Hollywood Studios and spend the entire day covering the rest of the experiences that you missed on your split day!
One thing that will be immensely useful is purchasing Disney Genie+ service, but it is subject to availability and may be higher in price during busier times of the year. I hope this helps you out Molly - I'm confident that you can do it!

Here's to some successful Park Hopping over the Holidays!
