Hi Sarah,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, and thank you for your loved one's service to our country. Mine is a military family too, and I know and appreciate the value of each service person's commitment and sacrifice.
Walt Disney World Resort offers some great discounts on
resort hotel rooms and
theme park tickets for active and retired military personnel. Guests must have an active U.S. military ID card to take advantage of these discounts, so if he is no longer active and did not officially retire, chances are he is not eligible for the discount. Take a close look at the fine print on each special offer to see if your family member qualifies.
Sarah, I see that you’re planning to visit in 2020. Disney has not yet released information about promotions for 2020; we typically see military special offers announced in the fall of each year for the following year, so keep an eye on the
Special Offers web page. Eligibility requirements have been the same for several years, but it's worth looking if and when the 2020 discount is announced. A bonus is that you may find a discount on the Special Offers page that will work for your plans; because availability is limited for military hotel discounts, my family doesn’t always use the military discount because we sometimes find other special offers that are even better for us.
One more piece of advice is to take a look at Shades of Green, the resort for military members located on Walt Disney World property. Eligibility requirements are listed on their website, and I believe they have special times of year where eligible non-retired veterans are able to reserve and stay at this lovely resort.
Have so much fun planning your 2020 visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth, Sarah!
Now, more than ever, it's a great time to visit, and please come back and see us if you have any further questions as you plan and dream!
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
