Greetings, Elsa, and welcome back to planDisney! It sounds like you're getting ready for the not-so-spooky season at Walt Disney World, my very favorite time to visit. Like you, I've already secured my ticket to
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and I'm already mentally preparing what I'm going to wear. I'm so glad you've asked about the rules because I'd hate for your festive time to turn into a horror story before you ever make it into the party.
I'm happy to share that costumes for both kids and adults are allowed during the Halloween party, but there are some guidelines to keep in mind, which I've linked for you
here. Please keep in mind that guidelines are different for kids 13 and under than they are for older kids and adults 14 and over.
The main things to know are that you can't pose for photos or sign autographs for other Disney Guests as though you're the actual character. Costumes must be family-friendly, and props can't resemble anything that could be construed as a weapon. Costumes may not drag the ground, and capes may not extend below the waist. Masks may not be worn, and any sort of headwear may not cover the face.
You're smart to think of comfort, too. It looks like you're going in August or the beginning of September, and it can be quite hot then. I like to wear cool, breathable fabrics, and for me, full, head-to-toe costumes in the summer are completely out of the question. Athletic skirts and short-sleeved tops are what I use as my base layer and then I accessorize from there to complete my look. I also stay cool with the use of a rechargeable neck fan, cooling towels and regular hydration. Free ice water is readily available at most Quick-Service locations that serve fountain soft drinks if you get into a pinch. Bottled water for purchase is also easily found throughout
Walt Disney World.
Elsa, I hope you have the best time at the Halloween party, and please hurry back with any other planning questions you have.
Let your dreams guide you!
Melanie
