What does the up close with rhinos or caring for giants at Animal Kingdom entail? Do you get meet the animals, get pictures taken with them etc.?

    Hi Christie!

I love to add a special event or tour to our Walt Disney World Resort vacation itinerary because it's an awesome experience to get a peek at how the Cast Members make the magic happen! Up Close with Rhinos and Caring for Giants are fantastic tours where you will have the opportunity to learn more about how some of the incredible animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom are cared for. I've been lucky enough to do both of these tours, so I'm happy to give you some information about them so you can figure out which one you would like to add to your vacation itinerary.

Caring for Giants will allow you to learn more about the African elephants at Disney's Animal Kingdom. This tour will take you to a special location where you can get a closer view of these amazing animals. You will get to hear from animal care specialists and African cultural representatives to learn more about these animals and how they are cared for at Disney's Animal Kingdom, as well as how we can protect their natural African habitat. While you won't be able to take photographs while you are traveling backstage, the viewing location is onstage so you will be able to take photos while you are enjoying the elephants from this spot! When we enjoyed this tour, we loved the awesome photos we were able to get with these beautiful animals behind us.

Up Close with Rhinos is another great option where you will be able to learn about the white rhinoceros at Disney's Animal Kingdom. This tour takes place completely backstage, meaning that there are no photographs allowed during the tour. However, this tour allows you to visit these incredible animals in their backstage home. In fact, during this tour, you will even get a special introduction to one of the rhinos, learning about his or her unique personality. You will be able to get as close as possible to these beautiful creatures during your tour and it's an extremely special experience! I enjoyed this tour with my family and I loved learning about them with my little ones.

Both of these tours offer a unique perspective into some of the beautiful animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom and either one would be a fantastic addition to your Walt Disney World Resort vacation! Since availability is limited, I recommend that you book your tour as early as possible. Come back to see us if we can help you again as you continue planning your vacation itinerary! T-T-F-N, ta ta for now!
