how close is the parking when driving your own car and is there a parking fee?

    Hi Jackie!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I enjoy using a rental car when visiting Walt Disney World Resort, which then gives me the option of driving myself or using the complimentary Resort & Theme Park Transport, connecting all the Disney Resort hotels to the four theme parks, the two water parks and Disney Springs.  Depending on where you are staying, you can use the buses, boats, monorails and the new Disney Skyliner.  The parking lots for the theme parks are located close by, but unless you arrive early it is likely you will need to use the parking tram to take you to the entrance as the parking lots are huge!  The only exception is for Magic Kingdom Park.  You will use the parking lot, take a tram to the Transportation and Ticket Center, then board a monorail or the ferry boat to take you to the entrance of the park.  All Disney Resort transport - buses, boats or monorail - will take you right up to the entrance of Magic Kingdom Park.  There is a daily parking fee for the theme parks, but this is good for the entire day.  You can park at any of the theme parks during one day and you will only pay one fee.  Just remember to keep your receipt safe. If you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel, parking at the theme parks is complimentary.  Parking at the water parks - Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Disney's Blizzard Beach - is free to all guests, and the parking lots are much smaller there, so you can walk from your car to the entrance.

There is now a charge for overnight parking at the Disney Resort hotels - this varies depending on which category of hotel you are staying at.  If you are visiting the hotels for a dining reservation or just to explore the hotel, there is no charge.
