Can I get some clarity around the MK's opening ceremony? I've read that it is ~15min before park opening, but then I've read that sometimes Main Street will be open ~30min before park hours. So, if we wanted to watch this, where and when should we go?

    Hi Keith!

In the past, on very busy days, Disney would sometimes let guests onto Main Street before the park officially opened; there would be a rope at the end of Main Street and guests would not be allowed to go past the rope.  However, I haven't seen that for several years now.

So usually what happens these days is guests are held just inside the turnstiles (before the tunnels going under the train tracks on either side of the train station).  At the official park opening time, guests will be allowed to go through the tunnels into Town Square and Main Street, USA.  The Magic Kingdom's Welcome Show takes place on the tracks facing the crowd below and the turnstiles.  It starts about 15 minutes before the official park opening time with the characters riding the train to the Main Street Train Station.    To be in a good position to watch the show, I recommend planning on arriving at the Magic Kingdom turnstiles about 30 minutes before the official park opening time.  If you are driving your own car, then you want to be in the Magic Kingdom parking lot about an hour before park opening; that will give you time to take the parking tram to the Transportation and Ticket Center and then to take the monorail or the ferry to the Magic Kingdom.

The Welcome Show is a great way to start off a beautiful day in the Magic Kingdom.  Enjoy planning and write back if you have any more questions!
