When do the Christmas decorations go up at Disney World?

    Hiya Bob,

Thank you so much for stopping by planDisney with your question about Christmas decorations—what a magical topic to discuss!

The holidays at Disney truly feel like stepping into a Christmas card come to life. From the moment you hear the Dapper Dans singing classic carols on Main Street, to the scent of gingerbread wafting through the air, and the twinkle of millions of lights—there’s nothing quite like it. My family always says it feels like we've walked straight into a Disney Christmas movie (and honestly, we never want to walk out!).

Now let’s jingle all the way into your question! Decorations start going up right after Halloween. It’s true—one moment you’re trick-or-treating with Mickey, and the next morning, garlands, wreaths, and a massive Christmas tree in Town Square surround you. Magic Kingdom is usually the first to be fully decked out since it’s the home of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The transformation is fast and absolutely breathtaking.

You’ll also see the resorts start to join in on the festive fun. One of my absolute favorites is the Wilderness Lodge. The towering Christmas tree in the lobby, the crackling fireplace, and the rustic charm feel like you’ve been transported into the coziest snow-covered lodge, even if you're in flip-flops. My girls and I love grabbing a hot chocolate and just soaking in the magic there. It’s our little holiday tradition!

We were lucky enough to be at Disney last year during the runDisney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, which kicked off on Halloween. Watching the parks transition practically overnight from spooky season to holiday sparkle was like witnessing real-life magic—one of those unforgettable Disney moments.

Also, be sure to keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog as the holiday season approaches. They always share the latest updates on new decorations, special offerings, holiday treats, and exclusive merchandise—it’s the best way to stay in the loop!

Bob, I hope this helps bring a little early holiday cheer to your planning! If you have any more questions, feel free to stop by again.

    See you real soon,

    Christina
