When choosing a photo to upload can it be a recent picture that is cropped to show shoulders up and crop others out of the photo to only show yourself?

    Hi Amy,

Thanks for sailing by with a great question about the photo required for your online check-in. If you’re at this stage, hopefully that means you have a Disney Cruise Line vacation just around the river bend! I’m happy to help you know what to expect for a seamless experience at that important milestone.

Online check-in is an exciting day as your cruise vacation quickly approaches, where you will submit critical information prior to sailing such as your travel plans, transportation, credit card payment information, travel documentation, and security photos.

Your security photo can be a recent photo that’s cropped but it may be easier to take a fresh one from your phone for an easier upload and clear image – it can even be a selfie! It just needs to be from the shoulders up, looking directly at the camera. Please be sure it is a color photo, no filters, and no hats or sunglasses. Think of it as a basic identification-type image, but it must be a different photo than that on your passport or other identification that you’re using as primary travel documentation. This photo will be used to verify your identity throughout your cruise when using your Key to the World Card, such as when making a purchase to your stateroom account or even when disembarking in a port. It's important that the image is clearly and uniquely you, in order to prevent fraud if your card is found by another person. Disney will review and approve the image quality online prior to your embarkation day, so getting it right the first time will save you time in the long run.

I like to have everything ready on my computer before the important day of online check-in, which will vary depending on your Castaway Club status. I prefer to do this step on a desktop computer rather than my phone, so I save all my family’s security photos and photographs of our passports in a folder on my local computer for an easy upload process when the time comes.

I hope this helps you prepare for an easy and seamless online check-in experience, Amy! Be sure to review our planDisney pocket guides for the ship you’re planning to sail on and review this handy packing list so you can be in ship-shape for embarkation day!

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can assist with as you finalize the details for this special vacation.

    Wishing you a magical cruise!
