Hi Richard!
Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney with your thoughtful question. As a parent of two incredible kiddos (one with food allergies and both with very strong opinions about what ends up on their plate), I completely understand wanting to make sure your family’s dining experience is both safe and satisfying.
Richard, I'm so happy to share that at the Walt Disney World Resort,
dietary needs and food sensitivities are handled with incredible care. From common allergies to more specialized diets, the Disney culinary team goes above and beyond to accommodate Guests. In fact, it's one of the reasons my family feels so at ease dining around the parks and resorts!
Now, to your question: if you're
dining at a table-service restaurant and your child doesn't plan to eat (due to dietary needs or simply being a picky eater), you are not required to purchase a meal for them. You're welcome to let your server know the situation when you arrive. If it’s a prix fixe or buffet-style experience, things work a little differently. Typically, all Guests seated are charged regardless of whether they eat. But you can always ask to speak with a chef or manager when you arrive to explain the circumstances; in my experience, Cast Members are incredibly compassionate and flexible when it comes to special dietary situations.
Here's a tip that has helped my family: when making
advanced dining reservations through the
My Disney Experience app, you can note any allergies or dietary needs ahead of time. Then, once you're at the restaurant, you can request to speak directly with a chef or a specially trained Cast Member about the menu options available, or if nothing works, they’ll often do their best to create something special just for your child. Seriously, it’s like watching culinary magic in action!
Also, you're welcome to bring in your own snacks or meals for your child. Just be sure items don’t require heating or refrigeration, and that they follow the
Resort's guidelines.
Richard, you're already doing such a great job by asking ahead. If you'd like any suggestions for allergy-friendly restaurants (like those with plant-based or customizable kid meals), I’d be more than happy to share some of our favorites!
Wishing you and your little ones a magical and delicious Walt Disney World adventure,
Emille
