Hello Jenn, and welcome to planDisney!
How wonderful that you'll be celebrating your
child's birthday aboard Disney Cruise Line. I'd be happy to help you prepare for an ocean of fun aboard for your child.
At the age of ten, your child will be welcome to visit
Disney's Oceaneer Club and
Lab, and may also attend
Edge (the space for tweens) with your permission. The day that they turn 11, they will be invited to join the fun at Edge only. If they have some favorite activities to enjoy at Oceaneer Lab, they can have one last hurrah during secured programming hours before their birthday.
If they just want to hang out in one space for the whole sailing, I encourage you to drop by Edge on the first day of your cruise to grant them permission to be there at the age of ten. Then, they will have access during the entire voyage and can make friends and get to know the Crew Member Counselors leading the fun in the tween space. They won't have to switch clubs mid-trip in this scenario.
My kids are now in their tween and teen years, and they still enjoy attending
Open Houses on occasion to check out the fun in Disney's Oceaneer Club. Open Houses are a time when the whole family can play in the immersive spaces onboard that are usually reserved just for kids. I love to see where my kids hang out for the majority of our days at sea!
If you have more questions, please return to planDisney to ask. My pals and I will be here to help!
Happy Planning,
Adrianna
