My child turns 3 half way through our Disney trip. Do I need to purchase park tickets for her?

Hi Melanie! Thanks for stopping by planDisney! I'm so happy to be able to answer your question today.

Oh my goodness, a birthday at Walt Disney World Resort sound so magical. I'm so excited for you and your family to enjoy this special birthday celebration with your little one! Did you know that Walt Disney World is also celebrating its own birthday during your visit? The big five-o, and you get to join in on the fun! There is special EARidescent magic at every turn during The World's Most Magical Celebration, so don't forget to take a look around and enjoy the fabulous Beacons of Magic on the theme park icons across all four parks. They are a perfect spot for a gorgeous family picture in honor of your little one's big day!

Melanie, the age determination for theme park tickets is based on the child's age at the time of arrival. So, if your child is still two years old on the first day of your visit, you will not need the purchase a theme park ticket for them for the entirety of your vacation, even after their birthday. Such great news, right?

Now that we have your ticket question answered, let's talk about a few ways to make your child feel extra special on their birthday! First, you'll want to pick up an "I'm Celebrating" birthday button from any Guest Relations desk throughout Walt Disney World. Your child will be delighted as cast members, and fellow Guests alike stop to wish them a happy birthday. It's so much fun and is sure to make them feel extra special on their big day. Next, did you know that you can order a special, Mickey-shaped celebration cake for your child's birthday from select restaurants across Walt Disney World? How fun is that?! To order one of these delicious cakes, head over to the restaurant's host stand on the day of your visit and let them know that you would like to reserve a Mickey Mouse Celebration cake. Now, the participating restaurants have a limited number of cakes each day, so I recommend getting to the restaurant as early as possible to make sure you can get one. Remember that you will want to have an Advanced Dining Reservation for your big birthday meal before reserving your celebration cake. So, don't forget to log onto the My Disney Experience app at 6 a.m. 60 days before your visit to make your dining reservations.

Melanie, I just know this will be such a special birthday for your little one. I can't wait for your to share this magical experience as a family. If you have any questions as you continue to plan your Walt Disney World Resort vacation, please stop by again, and we will be happy to help!

    Have a magical day!
