Can a child who is too short to ride stand in the queue with the 2 adults who will be rider swapping? For example, can the too short child wait in the line for FOP with the 2 adults riding and be swapped with 1 adult riding near the entrance?

    Hi Ashley!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! This year was the first visit in 10 years where we did not need to utilize the Rider Switch option! It felt like a major family milestone when my youngest finally reached the height requirement for all the rides the bigger kiddos enjoy. I think I have used Rider Switch at every attraction that offers it!

At Disney Parks, safety is always the number one priority, and because of this, Disney is very cautious and consistent about height restrictions. In my experience, Cast Members will not allow a child who is less than the required height to enter the queue past the first measuring area. It is at that location that you will usually let the Cast Member know that you will be using the Rider Switch. They will then scan your ticket media or MagicBand and digitally add the Rider Switch ticket for the Guest who will be remaining behind with the little one. At that point, the waiting Guest and the child are free to go off and enjoy another attraction, or grab a snack and wait for rider one to finish.

We usually made a plan for something fun for the parent and the child to do while waiting. At Space Mountain, for example, the waiting group would ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover. While waiting for Soarin’ Around the World, take a ride on Living with the Land. For Avatar Flight of Passage, you could shop at Windtraders, play in the drumming area, visit PhotoPass Photographers, or even walk to Discovery Island to shop and explore the trails. Once the first rider has finished, you can meet up and make the switch. The Guest who had been waiting will then return to the FastPass entrance to use their Rider Switch!

I hope this information helps with your planning, Ashley. Please let us know what additional questions you have as you get ready for your visit to the Walt Disney World Resort.

    Happy planning!
