How does a child get picked to be part of the disney parades. I am a single mom and will be taking my 5 year old son to disney world in May 2013. It will be his first visit to disney and just thought I would take the chance of maybe getting him picked.

    HI Cheryl!

This is a common question.  Unfortunately, it really comes down to luck.  You have to be in the right place at the right time.  It is one of those "magical moments" that really can't be planned for.  However, you can make the trip extra magical for him.  I recommend that you consider a Disney Character Dining Experience during your trip.  Most 5 year old boys would love Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary Resort, dinner at the Garden Grill in Epcot, breakfast at Cape May Cafe in the Beach Club, and breakfast at Ohana in the Polynesian.  All of those are Disney Character Dining Experiences.

Since it is your first visit, I highly recommend picking up the book "The Complete Walt Disney World" by Julie and Mike Neal.  It is a great book for first time visitors as it is full of information and tips, but it is not overwhelming.  It is also a beautiful book full of color photographs.  It will give you a good idea of every thing there is to do at Walt Disney World.

I hope this helps!  Please write back with more questions!
