Hi! In character dining, what kind of interaction you have with characters? My 4 yo daughter is a little afraid of characters and want to know in advance so I can tell her exactly what happens. We have reservations for CRT, Akersus, Tusker, Chef Mickey&quo

Hi Claudia.  Thanks for coming back to the Moms Panel.  Your little girl is not alone in being slightly wary of the characters at Walt Disney World.  Many children, each for their own reasons, are more than happy to visit with the characters, but from afar. Generally at character meals, the individual characters will stop by each table, along with a human companion (Cast Member), approximately every 10 minutes or so, until each different character has had their visit.  The magic of Walt Disney World is that these characters seem to have the uncanny ability of gauging the situation and reaction from the child as they approach the tables.  If need be, you could also quickly alert the Cast Member who is assisting the character and they will also help to guide the interactions.  Feel free to voice out loud what you would like as well, such as "Look Sally! There is Donald Duck! Maybe you would like to just wave at Donald and say hi from your seat!" thereby giving the cue to 'Donald' and the Cast Member what your daughter is comfortable doing. They usually stay for just a brief time, long enough for pictures or autographs, before moving along to the next table.  Now at Cinderella's Royal Table, or Akershus, the Disney Princesses are a little less intimidating, so you may find that your daughter is more open to visiting up close and personal.

I hope this information helps to ease your mind and your daughter's too!  I will send a whole bunch of pixie dust her way that when she sees the characters, she completely forgets her inhibitions and embraces the whole experience.  Have your camera ready Mom!

Please let me know if you have any other questions.  Have a magical day!
