We have a character breakfast at the Crystal Palace at 8:15 am 6-9-08-So my two questions are: will the "kiddie" buffet be small enough for a 3 year old & will we be able to get in line for rides before the park officially opens if we finish early?

When you say "small enough" I'm not quite sure if you mean the quantity of the food or the height of the serving station so I'll address both.

As for the food, there is a full buffet of choices at the Crystal Palace breakfast. Children and adults can take as much or as little food from the buffet from either the adult or the children's areas as they desire. My daughters always get some adult food items at the buffets at WDW and I have been known to sneak a Mickey waffle or two from the children's station. All of this is perfectly acceptable.

If you're talking about the height of the food station, yes, the children's area of the buffet is significantly lower than the adult area. A three year old could mostly likely see and probably reach most of the items, but I wouldn't recommend letting him do this unsupervised. Many of the food items are hot and balancing the plate could be difficult.

We have often had early seatings at the Crystal Palace and have finished dining before the park officially opens. When you are done with your meal, you will be able to leave the restaurant area and head toward the rides, but you will encounter rope barriers that will prevent you from actually going to the rides. The ropes will be at the entrances to each of the various lands of the Magic Kingdom. For example, you will be able to go to the edge of Tomorrowland, but you won't be able to enter Tomorrowland to queue up for the rides. Once the park opens, cast members will drop the rope and you will be able to walk to the rides. So, you won't be able to ride before the park opens, but you will have a bit of an advantage in getting there quickly over other guests who were not in the park prior to opening.
