Hello! I am chaperoning a class trip to Disney in November. Do you have to be 18 or older to purchase Genie+? Just want to give our students accurate information on what they will or won't be able to do. Thank you!

    Hi Amy,

Welcome to planDisney and thank you for your question! A class trip to the Walt Disney World Resort? That’s going to be so much fun!

When it comes to Disney Genie+ and really any purchases within the My Disney Experience mobile app, if guests are under the age of 18, they need to get a parent’s permission first. So, when you’re reminding the parents and students of logistics for the trip, you can share that information. As long as the student has a parent’s permission, they can totally purchase Disney Genie+.

Remember, they can purchase Genie+ the day they are going into the Theme Park and can choose their first Lightning Lane beginning at 7:00 a.m. If some of the younger students are a part of their family’s My Disney Experience account and their parents would rather make the reservation for them, that’s completely okay! I've done this before for my family and it's pretty simple as long as you communicate with the person in the Park. Just keep in mind that the parent would need to make all the Lightning Lane reservations for that day from their family’s app and the student would need some form of ticket like Disney MagicMobile, MagicBand+, or a physical card ticket beforehand since they wouldn’t be able to access the app on their phone.

Once final tip: With big groups like yours, I definitely suggest having a designated meeting location anytime you’re leaving the Theme Park. Instead of the meeting place being in the center of the Park, it can be somewhere off to the side so you can gather a bit easier. For example, the stroller pick-up station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (to the right as you enter the Park). Also, ensure that everyone has an exit buddy. This way you say “Does everyone have their exit buddy” and if someone doesn’t you immediately know who’s missing and can call them!

I hope this “Bit By Bryanna” gets you one step closer to helping your students make some great memories on their trip. If you have any other planning or vacation questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out, I’m always happy to help!
