Can I change the batteries in our magic bands? Wondering if they still work.

Hiya, Desmarie, and welcome to planDisney!

You are only a few sleeps away from your Most Magical vacation. A MagicBand or MagicBand+ will be super useful during your trip. With it, you can access your Disney Resorts Collection hotel room, enter the theme parks, and even charge your purchases around property to your hotel room’s folio. So, let’s get into if your current MagicBands still have magic in them…

The short answer is that you can’t change the batteries in your MagicBands. But you’ll be happy to know that the batteries in them last around 2-3 years. Let me tell you: My own magical devices have lasted even longer than that. I still have a couple of MagicBands from 2019 that still function at the theme parks.

There’s no way to know if they still work until you arrive to Walt Disney World Resort. However, what you can do now is open your My Disney Experience App, then select “MagicBands and More,” and select “Pair Your MagicBand+.” You can see if your MagicBands still show up there. And even better, if they’ve never been linked, see if you can link them now.

If you’re staying on Walt Disney World Resort property, as soon as your stay begins (no need to wait for a theme park day), see if you can open your hotel room door. And by the way, if you have the newer MagicBand+, all you’ll need to do is make sure it’s charged using an external cord that comes with it. So, you’ll never have to worry if the battery is drained or not.

AN EXTRA GEM: If you find that your MagicBand has gone “bye, bye,” there are many locations both in and around the theme parks to purchase new devices. From the theme parks to Disney Springs to your Resort hotel’s stores, you can get them just about anywhere. And if you’d rather not use them, you can always enter the theme park with a Key to the World ticket (via a request at your hotel), a physical park ticket, or a Disney MagicMobile Service-enabled device like your smartphone (via the digital wallet) or an Apple Watch.

I hope that you’ve found this information helpful, Desmarie! Please revisit us here at planDisney if you have any additional Disney vacation planning questions. Have the BEST trip ever!

    Magic always,
