We will be celebrating my husband's PhD in Mechanical Engineering this December at WDW. Do you have any suggestions for something free that a person with his background would enjoy? He is excited about Sum of All Thrills. Anything else you can recommend?

    Hi Jenna!

Thank you for sending me this question directly. I really appreciate it.

With a Mechanical Engineering background, I think he would be interested in some of the unique ride vehicles at Walt Disney World. He should definitely experience Dinosaur and Expedition Everest in Disney's Animal Kingdom. In Epcot, he should experience Soaring' and if it reopens in time Test Track. In Disney's Hollywood Studios, he should definitely experience Tower of Terror!

I know you are looking for free things, but as an engineer he would probably love the Backstage Magic tour. It is expensive, but a lot of fun for Disney theme park fans and for those people who just want some insight into how things work at Walt Disney World.

By the way, as an engineer he might also appreciate the hard work done at the independent website TouringPlans.com. They have basically converted Walt Disney World into a time dependent traveling salesman problem; he will probably be familiar with that problem. They basically produce touring plans that minimize your wait in lines. Their recommendations are based on a lot of math and years of data collection. Definitely check it out!

I hope this helps. Please write back with more questions.
