Hi! We will be celebrating our daughter's 9th b-day and first trip to Disney in January. I wanted to get her a special dessert, but she is not a cake person. Can you recommend a great apple or pumpkin pie on resort? Thanks so much!

    Hi Heidi,

You're never going to believe this...I also like to celebrate my birthday with a pie instead of a cake! While I'm on speaking terms with cakes, I've been long-term BFF's with pies instead.

(In fact, I shed a tear every time Fozzie Bear's remote-controlled banana cream pie gets smashed on his face at Muppet*Vision 3-D.)

Let me share a few spots where you can grab a nice slice of pie:

    1) Whispering Canyon Cafe (Disney's Wilderness Lodge)

They have an amazing apple-caramel pie that was the first thing I thought about as soon as I read your question!

    2) Yak & Yeti Restaurant (Disney's Animal Kingdom)

While it's not an apple or pumpkin pie, their mango pie is awesome. I'm throwing it out there because I'm a huge fan of it and it sounds like your daughter and I may have similar tastes.

    3) Beaches & Cream Soda Shop (Disney's Beach Club Resort)

They have an apple-cranberry pie on the menu, but it often gets overshadowed by the legendary Kitchen Sink dessert.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any restaurants that offer pumpkin pie on a regular basis, but it certainly could appear as a seasonal offering in select locations.

Here's a little tip from your buddy Derek:

In addition to the pies I mentioned above, there are a number of really awesome tarts, crumbles, and cobblers that are worth considering. One of my favorites is the berry cobbler at Artist Point in Disney's Wilderness Lodge. (It has a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, and it's topped with a scoop of black raspberry ice cream!)

I hope that'll help you get started with your plans. As you can probably tell, I LOVE talking about the food at Walt Disney World, so feel free to write back if I can answer any other questions!

    Best regards,
    Derek
