We are celebrating a 60th birthday with a stay at the Grand Californian Hotel and a day hopping the Disneyland park and California Adventure park. Please let me know what the theme parks and Grand Californian Hotel do to recognize a special birthday.

Hello Ryan, and welcome to planDisney! My family recently spent a birthday weekend at the Grand Californian Hotel, so you've got a friend in me to help with your question. I have some ideas that can add a little magic to your celebration.

First of all, the Grand Californian Hotel is amazing! From its majestic Craftsman-style architecture to its relaxing pool areas and cozy rooms, this hotel is a destination in itself. Plus, you won't be far from the magic of Disneyland and California Adventure.

To add a touch of pixie dust right from the start, consider pre-ordering an in-room celebration. Choose from a selection of gifts featuring Disney Characters, tasty treats, and themed balloon arrangements that are magically set up in your room before you arrive. You can also make a reservation at one of the hotel's restaurants. If you like the idea of being visited by Mickey and his pals as you dine, make a breakfast or brunch reservation at Storytellers Cafe. And Ryan, don’t forget to explore the activities exclusive to hotel Guests, like the complimentary Art of the Craft Tour, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the hotel’s stunning design. Reservations are required, so stop by the front desk to sign up. For the ultimate birthday treat, book a service at Tenaya Stone Spa.

Remember that Disneyland Resort hotel Guests have the perk of early entry into a designated theme park. It's either Disneyland or California Adventure, depending on the day of the week. This is an excellent opportunity to get a jump start on experiencing popular attractions. Just make sure your theme park reservation matches the early entry park for each day of your visit.

Once you scan into the park, Ryan, more birthday fun awaits! Start by picking up a complimentary birthday button. They can typically be found at various retail locations in the park, as well as City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A. and Guest Services on Buena Vista Street. My daughter received birthday greetings from Cast Members, Characters, and even other Guests all day long when she wore her birthday button. She and I were smiling all day!

Looking for a sweet treat? Several restaurants offer the Mickey Mouse Celebration Cake. This adorable, decadent cake can feed four to six Guests and is a festive way to end a meal. It's recommended that this cake be pre-ordered when making a dining reservation at least three days in advance. It can also be ordered in person at the host podium (subject to availability).

As you explore the parks, keep your eyes peeled for birthday-themed moments in various attractions! You’ll spot a cheerful birthday scene at the end of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and over in Haunted Mansion, one happy haunt is forever blowing out birthday candles in the ballroom. You can also go for a spin at Mad Tea Party – I've even seen the Mad Hatter there a few times celebrating his "unbirthday" with Alice.

Ryan, I hope you and your family have a wonderful birthday celebration during this upcoming stay. If you have any other questions ahead of your trip, please reach out. We're always happy to help here at planDisney.

Wishing you many magical moments and happy memories,
