Is there a way to celebrate a special occasion at a restaurant on property? We will be celebrating a birthday at Chef Mickey and want to make it extra special for the birthday girl?

    Hi there, Nicol!

Welcome back to planDisney; I’m so happy to see that our advice has been helpful and that you trust our guidance as you plan this special vacation to the Walt Disney World Resort. Every day is a special occasion on these amazing visits, but celebrating a birthday at the Most Magical Place on Earth is extra special! This spring, I celebrated two birthdays in one meal at Chef Mickey’s with some fellow panelist pals so I’m happy to share what you can do to make this experience even more memorable.

When you make a dining reservation, you may add a Celebration Cake on the reservation for an additional fee at many participating restaurants. Your server will bring this out as a special surprise near the end of your meal, and you can bring your own candles if you wish. These adorable cakes are shaped like our pal Mickey Mouse and serve 6-8 Guests. My favorite is the white chocolate cake, and it makes a wonderful breakfast the next morning if stored in your Disney Resorts Collection hotel room refrigerator! If you've already made the Chef Mickey's reservation, you may call Disney to inquire about adding this onto the existing reservation.

Located in the iconic Disney's Contemporary Resort, Chef Mickey’s is such a fun dining experience, with a full buffet meal and personal visits from our favorite pals tableside as well as a posed photo with one of them after your meal. Don’t forget to twirl your napkin high during the celebration – our friends will teach you all the moves, but a little practice at home never hurts! This restaurant boasts a complete dessert buffet, so while I adore the Mickey Celebration Cakes, you may want to save that for a different table service meal during your trip. Chef Mickey's has a make-your-own sundae station, cupcakes, and so many mini sweets that you may not be able to enjoy if you also have the cake at your table. Be sure to indicate this special occasion during your online check-in in the My Disney Experience App for your reservation and tell the host when you arrive at the restaurant. They can gladly make the included dessert buffet a full-on celebration for you! If you do decide to order the Mickey Celebration Cake, a takeaway box can be provided for any leftovers if you choose to enjoy both the buffet and a taste of cake for your girl’s special day.

Don’t forget to request a complimentary Celebration Button on this trip, Nicol. You can ask for one at your Disney Resorts Collection hotel front desk or any Guest Relations location. This special button can be worn anytime, within 365 days of your birthday! Wearing it on a Walt Disney World Resort vacation just makes the birthday girl feel extra special and maybe she will receive a few additional well wishes throughout her day.

I hope this helps you plan some fun touches for an extra special day at Chef Mickey’s, and throughout your visit. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with loved ones, Disney characters, and a delicious meal in this magical place. Please let us know how else we can help you make the most of this special time.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Amy
