What is the cave beside Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland CA? I've been going to Disneyland since I could walk and I have never gotten an answer for it.

    Hello Samantha!

Thanks so much for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I’m so excited you asked this. I love diving into the history of Disneyland Resort and this cave has a bit of history!

Rainbow Caverns Mine Train was a ride that opened in 1956 in Frontierland. There was an extension of this ride that opened in 1960 called Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland that this cave was a part of. In 1979 this attraction was closed to make way for what is now Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

The cave from the previous ride was left in place. Some say to add to the scenery, others claim it’s to add a bit of mystery. My boys love to make up stories this cave and the various adventures guests probably went on in the past!

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions about the various attractions at Disneyland Resort!

    See you real soon!
