Welcome back to planDisney, Donna! I'm so glad to see that you trust us with all of your Disney vacation planning questions.
As a
runDisney enthusiast, I had to giggle at your opening comment! Of course, I read it in the familiar voice of that well-known race announcement. I'm so sorry to hear that you will not be at your best for the
Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. You are correct in your findings that
wheelchairs can be rented at the
ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex by visiting the ESPN Clubhouse, located near the box office. But first, we gotta get you there!
I'm going to offer a variety of suggestions and hope that one will work for you by the time your trip rolls around. Your first option is the obvious: walk to the wheelchair rental. The ESPN Clubhouse is not the same as the ESPN Stadium Clubhouse (the store). The Clubhouse is where Guest Relations is located, and it's
not too far from the entrance where we see the iconic large red and black globe. My experience with race weekends is that the bus drop-off location changes periodically. You can speak with a Cast Member when boarding the bus or the bus driver about the possibility of being dropped off as close as possible.
If you have someone accompanying you, can you have them go pick up the chair for you? Occasionally there are complimentary wheelchairs available for a brief period of time in situations like these. As with all mobility aids at Walt Disney World, there are a limited number available, and they cannot be reserved ahead of time.
Another option is to take a ride-share service, like Uber or Lyft. For added magic, look into the
Minnie Van Service. You can order a ride through the Lyft app, and the service can't be beat! It's possible one of these vehicles would be able to drop you off closer to where you need to be.
Have you considered renting an ECV?
ScooterBug is Walt Disney World's featured provider. You could have it delivered to your resort upon your arrival and then picked up again at the end of your stay. These are typically accommodated on most
Disney transportation options, including
buses. Since many of the buses used during race weekends are motor coaches instead of traditional Disney buses, you may have to request accessible transportation ahead of time. You should be able to do this with a Cast Member at the front desk of your resort hotel.
Donna, I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you are back to yourself more quickly than you expect! I'm rooting for you! And if you have any more questions,
you know where to find us!
Always Dreaming -
