Hi Cathy! Tnxs so much for your tips of ways to save on eating! With your experience can you tell me how to plan enjoying snacks at DW parks on a budget. Family of 5 we don't have a DDP plan, so each day we will pay out of pocket to buy snacks for 5 days.

    Hi, Janette!

There are some great snacks at Disney, but you have to watch otherwise the cost will add up.

You might want to find some snacks that can be shared:  a bucket of popcorn ($3.25/$5.25), bag of grapes (about $3.39), or my favorite, the ice cream cookie sandwich (2 huge cookies with tons of hand scooped ice cream between.  My husband and I share one and STILL can't finish it, about $4.19.)  Fresh fruit can be purchased at many locations throughout the parks for about $1.29 per piece of fruit.  Delicious, nutritious, and budget friendly.  (All prices are subject to change.)

One day, count on splurging for Mickey Ice Cream bars.  At about $3.50, they are a bit pricey, but this can maybe be a special treat on a very hot day.

With the kids' meals, you get your choice of 2 sides.   Rarely do my kids eat both sides, so we will get a cookie or applesauce for the 2nd side that we can toss into our backpack for a snack later in the day.

Plan to share, schedule your snack time, and keep some extra snacks in your backpack and you will find you can easily stay on your budget.  Thanks for writing back and let us know if you have any other questions!

Meet the Panelist: Cathy, Ohio

Hi, I'm Cathy from Cleveland. I love to travel, especially in the winter to escape the snow and cold of Ohio! My husband and 2 kids share my enthusiasm for travel, so we enjoy our adventures together whether it is hiking at a National Park, sailing on a Disney Cruise Ship, or going to Walt Disney World which is our home away from home. My husband proposed to me in front of Cinderella Castle and we have not stopped visiting ever since! It's a blast helping guests here at planDisney!
