I can't find a week of availability for trailer camping at Fort Wilderness. My travel plans are flexible. What's the trick? Is there ever any availability?

    Loree:

I can understand your frustration, as I've been in your shoes before--and I can certainly tell you that booking online can sometimes seem futile.  So my first piece of advice when making a reservation at Fort Wilderness is to do so by phone.

The odd thing about Fort Wilderness is that some of its busiest times are seasons of the year when the rest of Disney's resorts are not necessarily full!  Fall tends to be very busy at the fort, even up through Christmas and January with "snowbirds" who have flown South to Orlando--and Disney--for long weeks, and even months!  So, my first thought is to look at times of the year other than fall...

My next thought: You may need to upgrade, as there are a limited number of loops now that are designated as just a full or partial hookup.  You may have to make a reservation for (and pay for....) a preferred spot or even a premium--even though you may not want the bells and whistles of cable hookup and large pad of a premium. Over the past 18 months, Disney has reconfigured many of the loops, so there are many more preferred and premium spots than partials.

Another hint: The Disney resort system "restarts" itself before it opens at 7 a.m.  And we have found that the best way to get a slot at the fort that someone cancelled TODAY is to be first in line for reservations TOMORROW in the morning!

My last thought: We have gone ahead and booked as many days as we could get--and then added on days, even one at a time, using my previous technique of calling first thing in the morning.  You may only be able to book 3 days at first, but keep calling to add on!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
