I'm so glad that you've found this site helpful. There are so many decisions when planning a trip to WDW (I've been recently torn between my resort choices too) so let me see if I can help you with your current dilemma.
The
Polynesian is wonderful. The Volcano pool is beautiful and it’s fun to watch the Wishes fireworks from the beach or even while swimming. I love walking the grounds at night with the paths lit by torches.
We have had family stay at the Contemporary and it seems more like a business hotel than a vacation escape to me. That being said, I know many visitors that just love the Contemporary. We often dine at Chef Mickey’s and shop at the Contemporary on our first evening. Both hotels offer many dining opportunities. The differences are really in the atmosphere. We have taken our son's grandparents to the Polynesian and they were also pleased with the resort. A first floor patio room provides a very peaceful place to relax.
Booking “resort only” allows you to watch for discounts and perhaps create greater savings for your family. It's a little more work but often worth it. See mousesavers.com for more information. You can then have the option of booking your room, tickets, etc separately. This usually yields the greatest discounts for us when we travel in the off-season (November, December or January). If a package becomes available that looks more attractive, you can change your reservation. Let us know what you decide!
