I am a cancer patient and I’m planning to go to Disney with my family in July. It’s there. Way to get assistance for a disabled person like me?

    Hiya Laura!

Welcome to planDisney! I would like to say that I am glad you are here and honored to help. You are fighting serious battles and I am glad to help you make more magical memories. Planning a Walt Disney World vacation is what we do here so make sure to let us know if you have any more questions.

One of the services I think would be of great help to you is the Disability Access Service (DAS). I have friends going through a variety of cancer treatments and they all have issues that make waiting in a traditional queue or line very difficult that cannot be resolved with a wheelchair or scooter. If you have issues that cannot be handled by a wheelchair or scooter which can be accommodated on most attractions and rides then considering DAS may be of value to you. The way it works is that you can book a return time for various attractions that correlate to the posted standby wait time. For example, if you want to ride Peter Pan's Flight but see that it's a 45-minute wait you can reserve via the My Disney Experience Mobile App a return time approximately 45 minutes from then. You can wait or rest anywhere you like and enter the attraction via the Lightning Lane entrance when it is time. DAS bookings can only be made one at a time so once you use one you can make another. It is great for allowing guests to be flexible and rest as needed throughout the day. DAS can include the person who needs it plus five other guests. This is great for letting families stay and enjoy experiences together.

Guests can register for it before they even arrive through DAS Advance. Just request a live video chat with a Cast Member between 7 am and 10 pm EST and if approved they will set up DAS on your My Disney Experience Account. DAS Advance includes the option to select 2 one-hour return windows for certain attractions for each day of your trip in the Parks. It's a great way to have some attractions already planned and ready to be enjoyed when you arrive.

Walt Disney World Resort also provides accommodations for guests at the Resorts as well as throughout the Parks. More detailed information about your specific needs could be obtained from Disability Services directly or by emailing them at disability.services@disneyparks.com.

July can be very hot so make sure to rest, hydrate, and find shade. I love to take a break and still have fun enjoying Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom Park, Living with the Land at EPCOT, Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and The Animation Experience at Conservation Station at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. All these experiences tend to have a limited wait and are seated and air-conditioned. I also love them!

I hope this helps and you have a healing and magical time!

    Happy Planning!

My husband and I work very hard to journey to our favorite place on Earth, Walt Disney World Resort, as much as we can. We have traveled as just adults, with babies, kids, teenagers, and senior citizens. We have seen so many characters, eaten at amazing places, and consumed a ton of Dole Whips. So "give a little whistle" and let me be your guide! Learn More About Nimmy
