What is the cancellation policy for a DVC member using vacation points converted as "reservation points" for a value resort (POP Century)? What happens to the points if vacation is cancelled?

Hi there, Chase, and welcome to planDisney! It's always a treat to meet a fellow Disney Vacation Club Member, and I'm happy to help with your "Pointed" question today. Let's get down to business!

One of my favorite aspects of DVC Membership is the flexibility to use your Vacation Points for all sorts of accommodations beyond the Disney Vacation Club resorts. Many Members don't realize that points can be exchanged for Reservation Points to book a stay at Disney Collection resorts around the world, so you're certainly ahead of the game! We've used this option before when one of our kids had a sports event at Walt Disney World Resort so we could stay at the resort where the team was, and it's a really great feature of Membership!

The policies for modifying or canceling a Disney Collection reservation depend partly on how far in advance of your planned check-in you make the change. It's important to know that the points cannot be converted back to Vacation Points once you exchange for Reservation Points.
    • For reservations arriving in 2024 canceled 5 or more days before check-in, all of the Reservation Points will be returned to the Use Year in which the reservation falls. This means that you could still use them to book another Disney Collection stay within that Use Year. If you cancel 4 days or less before check-in, all of the points are forfeited.
    • A change for 2025 arrivals: cancellations must be made 8 or more days before check-in; otherwise the points will be forfeited.
You can modify online, but I usually prefer to call Member Services and have one of the Cast Members there assist me to make sure I have all of my (Donald) ducks in a row before making a change. They are always extremely helpful and patient!

Chase, I hope this information is helpful as you are finalizing your vacation plans! Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney and please don't hesitate to reach out again if I can assist with any other questions about all things DVC and Walt Disney World Resort.
