Hey Howdy Hey Tobi and welcome to planDisney!
Your Magical vacation is just a few weeks away and there is so much excitement going on at the Walt Disney World Resort to celebrate! Thank you for stopping by with your question about the potential need to cancel or reschedule your trip. Let's go over your options so you can better prepare.
The biggest thing to consider for the cancelation policy is how you booked your vacation. Booking your trip online with a vacation package, that includes your Disney Resort hotel and theme park tickets at a minimum, will have a separate cancellation policy for doing this individually. Since vacation packages are the most common way Guests book their vacations, let's go over this first.
The current
policy for canceling a vacation package is any cancelation made more than 30 days in advance of your date of arrival will get a full refund. Cancelations between 2-29 days will incur a $200 fee, prices are subject to change without notice, but the rest will be refunded and anything canceled less than 2 days will forfeit the full amount paid. If you want to reschedule your vacation, any changes made less than 30 days from your date of arrival will come with a $50 change fee, prices are subject to change.
This cancelation and rescheduling policy is valid most days throughout the year especially when it comes to illness. If there is a medical emergency, refunds can be made but are at the sole discretion of Disney Cast Members if unique circumstances present themselves.
If you made your reservation with a room-only booking and purchased your theme park tickets separately, this is a bit different. Any changes made to a room-only reservation more than 5 days in advance will receive a full refund. Changes made between 0-4 nights will lose their deposit. Theme park tickets are non-refundable but if you need to change your vacation, Cast Members can help you apply the amount you paid to your tickets to the purchase of new tickets for another date. Pending the price, you may be responsible for the difference.
If your vacation is impacted by a natural disaster such as a hurricane, Disney has been very flexible on the fees in the past. If something like this were to happen, Disney has waived change fees in the past due to the natural disaster but again is at Disney's discretion on refunds and change fees in this instance.
If you haven't already, check out
travel insurance. Disney has a policy and there are many others available for purchase online so if anything does come up and you are responsible for fees or lose your vacation for a covered reason, you may get a full refund depending on the specifics of your policy.
I hope I covered scenarios that you may face but if you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know!
To Infinity and Beyond,
Nick
