Hi there Glenn, and a very warm Canadian welcome to planDisney!
I hope you're excited for your upcoming trip to Orlando this month, where the weather here’s definitely quite the difference from Ontario with some beautiful balmy breezes in the upper twenties into the thirties! I've observed quite a few fellow Canucks not only enjoying the warm weather, but finding it easy to pay for their purchases at
Walt Disney World Resort with their cards, but there are a few additional insights and caveats that I'm happy to share to help you plan ahead:
- While most Disney-owned and operated locations should be able to process a Visa Debit card, there may be select third-party operating partners in the theme parks where Canadians may encounter some difficulty using their debit cards to complete payment. (I've observed that this can sometimes be due to reader issues with cards being swiped instead of inserted, so you'll want to ensure that you're eliminating any possibility for error.)
- Each day, you'll want to keep track of your spending (as it magically has a tendency to happen so very quickly here) and be responsible about any spending limitations you may have. It's also always a good idea to contact your bank ahead of your trip to let them know you'll be using your card to make purchases in Florida, as you won't want to be surprised with your account frozen as a protective measure.
Many Canadians find some great value in
purchasing Disney Gift Cards as a way to not only plan ahead of their food and merchandise purchases, but avoid some of the fees that you might incur when using bank cards from Canada - so it's something that I recommend looking into if it fits with your style of vacationing. In the meantime, don't hesitate to come back to planDisney again for any other helpful hints, tips or tricks from any of the incredible Canadians who are always happy to lend some advice!
Wishing you a most splendid springtime journey down to Walt Disney World Resort!
