Camping Monday 3/12 thru 3/18, Can we arrive Sunday evening and park in the overflow and if not is there somewhere close by to park overnight? Also should we go to the trouble of bringing bikes? 4 adults 1 6 yr. old. First trip to WDW.

Hello fellow camper!  My husband and I are now Fort Wilderness fans since we bought our motor coach two years ago.  We love this quiet part of Walt Disney World and traveling with our own "resort" room is quite comfortable.

There is a great big overflow parking area next to the check-in building. However, you are not allowed to camp overnight in this area. Security is pretty tight and since you would have to enter through the guard gate they would not allow this.

We have always stopped along the way so we would arrive on the day of our check-in about 1:00pm. There are many KOA and other great locations near Disney. We actually stop just north of the border and make the last stretch the day of arrival.  Since sites need to be cleaned after each camper exits on busy days your site might not be available until even later.  If that is the case you are welcome to check in and then park in the overflow area until the site is ready. Once you check-in you can use all the facilities as well as the bus and other transportation.  If you plan to stay longer on the day of your check-out you can again park in this overflow area while you are in the parks.  Extra trailers and vehicles etc are parked here during so it is very secure and patrolled.

I would definitely bring bikes for your first visit.  If you want to you can rent them but they are not of great quality and you would probably be more comfortable with your own. Fort Wilderness is a large area and bikes allow you to experience it all.

Fort Wilderness is an amazing place full of wonderful guests and cast members. During the holidays it comes to life with special activities and decorations. Any more questions please ask me as I get excited about everything there!
