We would like to camp in January why is it so hard to book a campsite. Please help my mom has stage 4 colon cancer and we are trying to do a family vacation before we lose her.

Hi Becky! I can certainly appreciate your wish to have a magical family vacation. Fort Wilderness Resort is a very popular location and is often booked completely.

You did not offer dates for your trip in January but I will offer some suggestions to try to get what you are hoping for. First of all try to book ANY type of site. If you are planning on using tent then know you can actually have tents on any type of site and not just the camping loops. So if a Premium site is the only thing available grab it. When you check in they often can rearrange your sites for you.

The second suggestion is to play with your dates. If you are hoping to stay for a week but can't get all of the days then again book it and work with Fort Wilderness once you arrive to see if they can allow you the extra nights. Often they want you to book a week at a time and so start the wednesday perhaps before your arrival date and carry it through to a day or two after the date you have planned to leave. This sounds complicated but try for a longer period of time and then once you get that you can work with reservations to delete the days you don't need. I hate to say it but you just have to play around and keep playing until something opens up. Again book what you can and then work with the Fort to allow you to stay the length of time you wish.

If you have any further questions about this process please ask me again personally as we are Fort Wilderness RVers and come often.
