    Hello. Did the California Grill ever go by a different name?

    Hi, Jean!

    What a fun question! The California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort used to be named "Top of the World."  Along with dinner, there was even a show called "Broadway on Top" with live performances that ran until 1993. Around 1995, Top of the World became California Grill

    While the name has changed, this restaurant still holds bragging rights as the best location to watch the Magic Kingdom's fireworks!

    If you head over to Bay Lake Tower, you will notice that their top floor lounge is named "Top of the World Lounge" in reference to the restaurant of yester-year.  I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same!

    Thanks for your great question. I enjoyed a trip down memory lane, as I found some really great photos from the 80s and 90s of what the restaurant and show looked like. If you do some web searches, you will see some fun history from this amazing resort.
