A cabin at wilderness lodge or a villa at animal kingdom? AKL is much more expensive, but I like the idea of the 3 and 5 y.o. boys having room outside to play. Being able to see animals right outside the window sounds amazing though! Thoughts?

    Hi, Andrea!

I just love these kind of decisions.  You can't go wrong with either option!  Both Animal Kingdom Lodge and Fort Wilderness have their advantages.  With Fort Wilderness, you will be closer to the Magic Kingdom, have a wonderful place for your boys to play outside, and even an outdoor grill to cook-out if you wish.   The downfall of this location is getting around is bit more difficult as you have to take an internal bus loop to get around since it is so large.  However, you can take a fun boat ride to the nearby Magic Kingdom which is a bonus.

The Villas are lovely and perfect for families.  It is quite a unique experience seeing a giraffe walk by outside your balcony!  If there is a downfall here, it is this resort is a bit far away from anything, so count on longer bus rides to the theme parks.

Between these two choice, I would opt for Animal Kingdom Lodge.  This resort is just stunning and a once in a lifetime kind of experience.  It is not cheap though, so look at your vacation budget before deciding.

Can I go totally off the board, and ignore this if you wish!  It sounds like you are looking for a room with a kitchen/bedroom option, but IF you can work with just a regular resort room, look at Port Orleans Riverside.  With 2 young boys, you might really like this resort!  They have a great food court, an awesome pool, and super fun Ol' Man Island with a playground, pool area, and even catch-and-release fishing.   My son loves it here, and we even rented bikes during our last visit.  So much fun, and budget friendly.   Just something to think about!  Good luck choosing the perfect resort for your family.

Meet the Panelist: Cathy, Ohio

Hi, I'm Cathy from Cleveland. I love to travel, especially in the winter to escape the snow and cold of Ohio! My husband and 2 kids share my enthusiasm for travel, so we enjoy our adventures together whether it is hiking at a National Park, sailing on a Disney Cruise Ship, or going to Walt Disney World which is our home away from home. My husband proposed to me in front of Cinderella Castle and we have not stopped visiting ever since! It's a blast helping guests here at planDisney!
